Adventures and Fairy Tales Inside

You'll be excited to know that we've added some great new videos to the site! First, check out the classic fairy tale of Rumpelstilskin, the mysterious little man who was able to spin straw into gold. Once they finish the story, ask your child to talk about their favorite part or pose any or all of the thought provoking questions below:

1. Name the characters in the story. Who are the two main characters?
2. Where did the prince lock the Miller's daughter?
3. What is a spinning wheel?
4. Can straw turn into gold?
5. What did the queen have to do in order to keep her baby?
6. How did the Princess find out the little man's name?
7. Why did the Princess tell Rumpelstilskin he could have her child?

I've also added a Chapter book to the video section entitled The Talking T Rex. You can try reading one chapter each night. But your child may get so swept up in the excitement of the story that they want to read the whole thing at once!

Bright Start Services

Bright Start offers a number of services and lesson types to help your child succeed in school and improve their English skills. Personal one to one sessions or small groups may be organized to practice reading, writing, spelling, conversation, vocabulary, or phonics. If you let us know what you are looking for, we can customize a weekly lesson plan for you. You can choose any combination of reading, writing, or other services based on the needs of your child.

The resources on our website may be used in conjunction with private tutoring sessions or you can choose to follow the website only if you have difficulty finding a set time for private sessions. We can even discuss "virtual lessons" through the website that your child can access when they have the time.

The website offers modules that include spelling quizzes, phonics and vocabulary card games, and video of Teacher Kelly reading stories. We are also working on a writing module that will allow the children to submit writing samples based on a designated topic.

How do I become an honor student?

In addition to tutoring, I'm investing a great deal of time and effort into my website so that it can be utilized by students during the week between our lessons. In addition, this content is available to those who may not have time for personal tutoring sessions but would like their child to benefit from my English and Phonics resources.

While the basic content is available to everyone, in order to have access to the full content including videotaped stories, interactive spelling quizzes, Phonics games, and a Parent Portal showing detailed analysis of your child's performance there is a nominal charge. Please contact me for more details.

I'm Kelly, a kindergarten teacher and private English tutor in Hong Kong. I work with kindergarten and primary school students and offer numerous types of lessons - reading, writing, conversation, phonics, and homework assistance. I am from the United States and graduated from an Ivy League school with a degree in Child Development.
